Oral contraceptives may not be appropriate for all patients and cannot be prescribed through telemedicine in certain situations. Patients with a history of blood clots, stroke, certain migraines with aura, uncontrolled high blood pressure, smoking over age 35, certain cancers, liver disease, pregnancy, or other high-risk medical conditions may require in-person evaluation or may not be eligible for hormonal birth control.

What is birth control?
Prescription birth control may include:
- Combination birth control pills (estrogen/progestin)
- Progestin-only pills (“mini pills”)
- NuvaRing or Annovera vaginal rings
- Xulane or Twirla contraceptive patches
- Emergency contraception (when appropriate)

Hormonal contraceptives (Vaginal ring or Dermal patch)
1-3 month prescriptions
