What is pink eye?
Pink eye, also called conjunctivitis, is irritation or infection of the thin tissue covering the white part of the eye. It can cause redness, itching, tearing, discharge, and crusting, and may be caused by viruses, bacteria, allergies, or irritation.
Symptoms of pink eye may include:
- eye redness
- itching
- burning
- tearing
- eye discharge (watery or thick)
- crusting of the eyelid
- swelling
- irritation
- gritty sensation
- mild light sensitivity
