What is acne?
Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. This can result in various types of blemishes, including pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and in some cases, deeper cysts or nodules. Acne typically affects areas with a high concentration of oil glands, such as the face, chest, and back.
We can evaluate most acne, recommend personalized treatments, and prescribe medications based on your symptoms and photos – all without needing an in-person visit. This makes care more convenient by saving time, avoiding travel, and allowing you to get treatment quickly from home.
Symptoms of acne may include:
- Pimples (papules and pustules) that may be swollen or contain pus. Pimples can appear red on lighter skin, and show as dark-colored bumps on darker skin
- Blackheads (open comedones) that appear as small black or dark spots on the skin
- Whiteheads (closed comedones) that are small, flesh-colored or white bumps
- Oily or greasy skin
- Scarring or dark spots (hyperpigmentation) left behind by previous blemishes in darker skin tones
